«I possess something that appears valuable. Not me, but a part of me - my horn. But to take it, I must be wounded, bled, left to die. I cannot be wanted and survive, if I am only wanted in pieces. You don’t know how to love entirely. You don’t want all of me - only my horn. But I will no longer allow myself to be taken apart». This work explores what it means to remain whole in a world that seeks to break you into parts. There is a cultural belief that the horn is a medicine, a talisman, a symbol of power. This belief sustains a market: someone is always willing to buy. Which means someone will always be willing to kill. Poachers hold power over life and death. Thus, through another’s suffering, an illusion of strength is born. A poacher is not only one who kills animals - it can be anyone who wants a part of you but refuses to see you in your entirety. Who wants only your horn - your talent, your power, your beauty, your warmth - but does not want to carry the weight of you whole.
